1. Data processing in the Tactara app
General information about the app
Tactara is a native smartphone app for iOS and Android, distributed as a one-time purchase via the Apple App Store and Google Play. The following sections describe how the app handles your data in standard operation. The separate beta dance-feedback function is described in the following section.
Microphone permission
The app requires a microphone permission (iOS: `NSMicrophoneUsageDescription`, Android: `RECORD_AUDIO`) that you must explicitly grant at runtime. The microphone is used solely to measure the tempo of ambient music in real time. No audio recording takes place, no speech recognition and no song identification. The microphone stream is processed on the device in real time and discarded immediately afterwards.
No data collection in standard operation
In standard operation, the app collects no personal data. In particular:
- No user account is created and no login data is required.
- No tracking takes place, no analytics SDKs, no advertising IDs.
- The app makes no network connections in standard operation — it works offline.
- No audio recordings are stored or transmitted.
The only exception is the voluntary beta dance feedback, which is described in the following section. It is explicitly opt-in and can only be triggered by your deliberate action.
No third-party SDKs
The app uses no third-party SDKs for analytics (e.g. Google Analytics, Firebase Analytics), advertising (e.g. AdMob), crash reporting (e.g. Crashlytics, Sentry), push notifications or comparable services. Aggregate crash reports in the app store ecosystem (Apple, Google) fall under the privacy practice of the respective store operator; we have no direct access and cannot disable them.
Sale and payment via the stores
Purchase of the app takes place via the Apple App Store infrastructure or via Google Play. We as the provider have no access to the payment and account data collected there. The privacy provisions of Apple or Google apply.
2. Beta dance feedback (formerly “data donation”)
This section describes an additional feature that exists only in beta versions of the Tactara app. The beta phase runs from May 2026 until the V1.0 launch (expected late summer / early autumn 2026). At the V1.0 launch, the feature described here is deactivated in the app by build flag.
What the beta dance feedback is
Beta versions of the Tactara app include a recorder function and a share button. If you tap the share button, a consent dialog appears. If you explicitly confirm the dialog, the app sends a data file to our beta server so that we can improve tempo measurement and dance suggestions in future versions.
The dance feedback is:
- Voluntary. You decide whether to tap the share button.
- Strictly initiated by you. The app never sends automatically. Every upload is a deliberate action.
- Data-minimising. The transmitted data contains no information by which you or your device could be identified — no name, no email, no account, no unique device ID.
- Limited to the beta. The function disappears at the V1.0 launch.
What data is transmitted
When you trigger the dance feedback, the app sends a CSV file containing:
- App version.
- Device category (e.g. "Samsung" — not the exact model).
- Operating-system major version (e.g. "Android 14" — not the exact build number).
- Coarse, obfuscated measurement values from the analysis of tempo, rhythm and timbre, plus a coarse harmonic indicator (major/minor tendency) — non-invertible; the music provably cannot be reconstructed from them.
- The dance and setup descriptions you entered in the recorder.
- Date in YYYY-MM-DD format (no exact time, no second-level timestamp).
What is expressly not transmitted
- No audio recordings. No audio is recorded — neither locally nor on upload.
- No unique device identifiers (no IMEI, MAC address, advertising ID or comparable identifier).
- No personal data (no name, no email address, no user account).
- No precise timestamps and no original file names.
Recipient and hosting
Recipient of the dance feedback is Tactara Software GmbH as the provider of Tactara (contact details in the imprint). The data is stored on servers of Host Europe GmbH (Germany) in the EU. A data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR exists with Host Europe.
The data is not passed on to further third parties.
Legal basis
The legal basis for the processing is your explicit consent under Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR. You give this consent each time you confirm the consent dialog after tapping the share button.
Purpose
The measurement values are used exclusively to improve tempo measurement and dance suggestions in future versions of Tactara. They are not used for marketing or advertising purposes and are not sold to third parties.
Storage duration and deletion
The transmitted data is stored until model improvements for the respective app version are completed. By the end of the beta at the latest, raw uploads are aggregated or deleted. No permanent individual storage takes place.
IP address
During the HTTPS upload, your IP address is technically unavoidably received by the server. It is held only briefly in working memory in order to prevent abuse (rate limit) and is then discarded immediately. It is not stored together with the measurement data or linked to you.
Transmission security
The transmission is encrypted (HTTPS). The server checks every uploaded CSV schema and rejects data that does not match the expected structure.
Your rights
You have the right of access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and objection (Art. 21). You can withdraw a granted consent at any time with effect for the future (Art. 7 (3) GDPR); you also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR).
- The beta dance feedback is transmitted without name, email or device identifier; we do not collect additional data to identify you (Art. 11 GDPR). We can therefore usually not allocate a single feedback upload to a person — access, rectification, erasure and data portability can be exercised for a single feedback upload only if you provide us with identifying information.
- You exercise your withdrawal for future transmissions by not triggering any further dance feedback or by uninstalling the beta version. The details — including the note that feedback data already transmitted cannot be individually deleted — are governed in the beta agreement (consent dialog).
Build lifecycle
The dance-feedback function exists exclusively in beta versions of the app. In the V1.0 release version and all later stable versions, the function is deactivated by compile-time constant — the app can then no longer send data to the server, not even through user action. This property is fixed in the app's source code and can be verified.
